Drawing tutorial 030 - Three point perspective

Three point perspective uses three vanishing points. If you have not gone through single point and two point perspective then please read them. Two of the vanishing points can be set on the horizon line. The third vanishing point can be above or below the horizon line depending on the position of the observer. Once the three points are set, it will look somewhat like the figure below:




Placing of vanishing points: In general two vanishing points can be placed on the horizon line depending on how the two vertical surfaces are inclined to the viewer. The more a surface is inclined, more close the vanishing point will be. Following illustration will make the concept clear. 




The vertical vanishing point, as stated above, can be above the horizon line or below. If the observer is high above the object, VP will be below the horizon and vice versa.

Once the vanishing points are placed, we can draw the grid line by drawing lines originating from the vanishing points.



Now the three dimensional object can be constructed following the grid line as below:
