Drawing Tutorial 005 - Drawing male face in front view

1. The basic oval of the face in front view remains same. Mark the horizontal eyeline and vertical divider. Mark the position of the nose, mouth and position of eyes. The eyebrows in case of a male is generally little thicker and straighter than that of female.

2. The eye can not much be distinguished as a individual element separately. But some features can be added deliberately to make the eye look more masculine. The eyebrow already mentioned above is one of them. It is thicker in case of male eye. The contour of the eye can be done with straighter lines than a smooth curve. Also the upper eyelid can be drawn so that the crease between the eyelid skin touches the top of eye in the middle.

3. The lip can be made little sharp by creating angles in lower lip instead of curves.

4. The hair comes forward in the middle and recedes beside it. As there is some volume, the top contour of hair is above the skull.

5. lets give a shape to the hair volume. Different styles will have to be drawn separately. There is no one formula to draw hair.

6. draw the jawbone.Create the Draw the neck. The horizontal lines of neck starts where the jawbone bends. draw the eye. The iris will be in the middle. Highlight areas are marked with a small circle and crescent shaped area.

7. To suggest the flow of hair, lines are drawn.

8. To complete the piece its time to add some shading. The light direction that has been considered to shade is shown to the right. The highlight areas are marked with H and shadow areas are slightly hatched.

9. Develop the shadows slowly and create the sense of volume and shape. Darken the pupil except the highlight. Shade the iris leaving the crescent white. Use putty eraser where necessary.
