Drawing Tutorial 33 - How to draw ear

In today's tutorial we will  learn to draw ear as seen from front. The shape of ear is similar to half heart with some sharp bends.

1. draw the outer periphery of the ear. Note the curves of the top helix and the lobule in the bottom.

2. The we start drawing the inner line for the helix. You can feel your own ear with your hands. The outer end curves in for the upper and middle part. Note that this line goes till a specific point. There is no curves in the lobule (soft part in the bottom of the ear).

3. The helix or the outer curved flappy part of the ear takes a roundy curve where it touches the face on the to. draw this curve which bends towards inner ear.

4. The antihelix is a Y shaped ridge like part which runs inside the helix. Please note the shapes of two branches of Y shaped antihelix.

5. Lower part of the antihelix (called antitragus) takes a hook type curve and the same should be noted and drawn accordingly.

6. Tragus is a cartilage  protruding over the ear canal from face side and shaped like a flat U. The shapes should be studied carefully.

7. Lets try drawing the shadows. We will consider that light is coming from top left. So the right-bottom parts will be in dark shadows. Ear canal, edges of helix that are not facing the light. Edges of the antihelix that are not facing the light shall be in shadows.
